Golden Retrievers - General Description
Golden Retrievers are powerful, energetic dogs, and are loving and eager to please. Highly intelligent, the dog is easily trained and can serve as an ideal sportsman's dog, as a guide or service dog for handicapped, and they make excellent family pets. They are gentle and patient with children, although they can be rambunctious when young. Golden Retrievers are friendly with other dogs and other people. They do not make good guard dogs, as they rarely, if ever, attack. But, as a watchdog, they may bark loudly to signal a stranger's approach. Golden Retrievers are highly talented, some of their specialties are hunting, retrieving, narcotics detection, competitive obedience and they can even perform tricks. Also, they absolutely love to swim.

The Golden Retriever is a powerful and active dog that is alert and self-confident. These dogs give an overall appearance of balance and speed. The dog's body is well balanced. The chest is broad. The neck is long and muscular. The head is rather broad with a wide and with a powerful muzzle. The eyes are brown with dark rims. The pendant ears are medium-sized. The nose is black. The Golden Retriever's tail is long but never curved.
The dense coat is water-repellent. The outercoat is firm, and lying close to the body. The undercoat is dense. The cream or golden-colored coat may be straight or wavy.
Golden Retrievers are beautiful, well mannered, intelligent and charming.
Height: 22-24 inches in males and 20-22 inches in females
Weight: 60-80 pounds in dogs and 55-70 pounds in bitches
Life Span: Golden Retrievers can live to be about 10-12 years.
